On October 4 2023, the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC), a federally chartered advisory committee to the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation, announced the new long-range plan (LRP) for nuclear science entitled “A New Era of Discovery”. This LRP articulates “the scope and the scientific challenges of nuclear physics today, what progress has been made since the 2015 LRP, and the impacts of these accomplishments both within and outside the field.” The LRP provides a framework for coordinated advancement of the Nation's nuclear science research programs over the next decade.

To celebrate and resonate with the launch of the LRP, a simultaneous hybrid in-person/virtual event titled “Update on the Long Range Plan for Nuclear Science” took place in 21 locations across the U.S.A. on October 6. TUNL was one of the sites participating in this event. The picture shows the attendants to the event; the banner announcing the LRP is in the right corner.
