Application

The online application portal for the 2025 Program is now open.

Please read all instructions below very carefully as we are using a new application portal this year.

Applications for the 2025 TUNL REU Program will be submitted using the NSF Education and Training Application Platform (ETAP).

  1. Students must first create a profile in the ETAP system.  This profile can be used to apply to other REU programs which are utilizing ETAP.
  2. The demographic information you provide is important to NSF as they seek funding to support additional research opportunities for students.  Note that test scores (SAT/ACT/GRE) are not used in admissions for this program.
  3. As part of the TUNL REU application you will be asked to provide an unofficial transcript and to respond to the following prompts:
    • Please describe your academic and research goals and how participation in the TUNL REU Program would help you achieve these goals.
    • Describe your interest in nuclear and particle physics.  Be specific about why this program in particular is a good fit for you.
    • Describe any previous research experience you have had as well as any technical skills that you have that might be relevant to physics research.
  4. You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of two writers who can provide you with letters of recommendation.  You will be able to track the status of these letters in the ETAP system.

The application deadline is 11:59 PM EST on Monday, January 27, 2025.
